CHOIRS

The Fort Wayne Children's Choir offers a performance-based program which strongly emphasizes developing music literacy and appreciation through choral literature. The choir is organized into seven levels of curriculum, with auditioned singers placed in a choir level based on their musical skill, growth and development. Each choir includes a strong focus on team-building, self-discipline and positive creative expression.

Preparatory Choir
A non-auditioned choir, this program is designed to help students ages 7-9 develop their vocal talent by building skills such as pitch- matching, tone development, breathing techniques and overall self-confidence. Singing games and movement are included in this training. Classes meet weekly for 45 minutes over a12-week period throughout the school year. Tuition is $260.

Apprentice Choir—Beginning Level I
In this beginning level choir, singers are introduced to basic vocal technique, music reading skills, score reading and the concepts of music (melody, rhythm, form, dynamics, harmony). Repertoire includes simple unison songs and vocal ostinati. Musical games and activities are included to enhance the musical growth of these young singers. They rehearse weekly throughout the school year for 75 minutes. Tuition is $410.

Lyric Choir—Intermediate Level I
Expanded vocal training, two-part singing and sight-reading skills are included in the weekly, 90-minute rehearsals of this choir. Basic music theory is introduced. Tuition is $460.

Treble Choir—Intermediate Level II
In this level, two-part skills are continued and three-part singing is introduced. Vocal technique and pentatonic sight-reading are emphasized. Music theory and appreciation skills continue to be developed. They rehearse weekly throughout the school year for 90 minutes. Tuition is $460.

Concert Choir—Advanced Level I
Singers in this choir can sing independently in three parts, use intermediate solfege skills for sight-reading, and demonstrate a healthy accurate tone. Four and five-part singing are taught. Foreign language skills are developed and stressed. Advanced theory, music history and appreciation is emphasized. This choir performs in public more frequently and is the most advanced choir of unchanged voices. As our major touring group, this choir travels to a choral festival or camp each summer. They rehearse throughout the school year for 90 minutes, twice a week. Tuition is $520.

Youth Chorale—Advanced Level II
Members of this choir are in grades 9-12, though younger males with “changed” voices may also be members of this group. Instruction builds upon choir members’ previous training in the FWCC. Advanced skills in vocal technique, sight-reading, and music theory are stressed. Mixed voice literature (SAB, SATB) is used. They rehearse weekly throughout the school year for 90 minutes. Tuition is $365.

Chamber Choir—Advanced Level III
The most recent addition to the FWCC choir program, the Chamber Choir is made up of select members of the Youth Chorale. This highly motivated ensemble performs for small venues and private functions throughout the community. There is no additional tuition for this group. They rehearse weekly throughout the school year for 60 minutes.
